Inside the Fiction Factory – Part 215

Astrology

I’ve never really paid any attention to the signs of the Zodiac other than a mug I have with my own star sign and this mug is so old I’ve forgotten how I came to own it, but it’s always been there. It’s never been used for drinking tea or coffee, and has stored numerous objects such as keyrings, paperclips (now there’s a thing from the past) and guitar plectrums for as long as I can remember. As I write I can see it on top of my bookshelves. (I have a Beatles Abbey Road mug for my pens and pencils on my writing desk). However, in researching for the novel I’m working on, I decided to delve in and assign my lead character with a particular birthdate. Whether that stays or not I don’t know, but I needed to do some background study should it be relevant and to ensure it is accurate.

Of course, the algorithms immediately started pushing content my way as soon as I searched for details on Astrology. Thing is, it caused a moment to pause and ponder over exactly what was being presented to me. Having read through the traits for my own birth sign, and seeing behaviours listed that appear relevant, it is either just coincidence, or I’m simply picking of ones I recognise and saying yes I do that, or it is an entirely accurate reflection of who I am as a result of when I was born.

Curiously, Tarot card readings also began to appear on my timeline, as I let the algorithm run with the research I was doing. Again that was kind of strange as I listened to the readings and then compared them to my own experiences. I have enough background material to work some of this into the novel to position my main character within a particular star sign. So no further research is necessary for this particular topic. I’ve since had to do a reset and have my feed fill with my usual topics of books and synthesizers along with The Beatles and Pink Floyd and some cool posts on art. I’ve no requirement to keep looking into Astrology for now unless the character I’m writing about demands it. It is a wonderful thing writing fiction, as for me it requires researching a variety of topics in order to produce the best book I can at the time. I never know what is going to come up next, but the one thing I do know is there will always be something knew to study up on. Is that a trait of my Zodiac sign? I can’t say for sure, but it probably should be!
