Inside the Fiction Factory – Part 87

Wildlife Photography Exhibition

One of the many good things about being a member of the Museum of Scotland, is taking advantage of the free entry into the major exhibitions they run during the year. My membership enables me to visit several times and typically I will attend each exhibition three times. My initial visit is to gain an impression and take in what is going on and if allowed take a few photographs. The second visit I will take my time reading all of the information on offer and again take further photos. My third visit is to take in my particular favourites that are one show. Part of the reason behind this is I go during my lunch hour and with the walk to and from work to the museum, it leaves me around thirty-five to forty minutes and although I can join the members queue, I still have to check-in so it all takes time. On some occasions, for example the Dr Who exhibition, I took time off to do an extended visit. I’m a huge fan of the show and I was excited to take the time to really immerse myself in the exhibits. I believe there is a video game exhibition coming this summer (I attended a previous one a good few years back) so I will be putting my leave in soon in order to take full advantage of my membership.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition is a marvellous event. The images of wildlife are truly stunning, and although I’m supposed to be good with words, I find myself struggling to find ones that do this event justice. There is quite a range featured. I particularly like seeing those in the sea and as always there are specimens I’ve never seen before and could barely imagine. The detail and quality is amazing and I love the fact there is a small blurb accompanying each one, where the photographer gives some background to how the shot was taken. I’m already planning my next visit.
