Inside the Fiction Factory – Part 137

Kilconquhar

Next stop after Elie was Kilconquhar, which I appreciate isn’t the easiest of place names to pronounce. It isn’t on the coast but only a short drive inland. The estate provides a range of bed and breakfast accommodation along with self-catering properties set in a large wooded area. There is also an on-site restaurant and swimming pool. I had booked a room in Kilconquhar Castle which isn’t as grand as it sounds, but it was clean and comfortable and a good place to chill out after a walk around the grounds.

The weather broke and it rained late afternoon. The weather had been kind during the trip so there was no need to complain. Scotland can experience all four seasons in one day so always be prepared. I’m looking forward to going back to the East Neuk and exploring further. This trip has been busy with a lot crammed in during a short time. There are coastal walks to go on, more historical sites to visit and further hospitality to experience so I will definitely be back. There were a number of highlights. I really enjoyed the cafe in Crail with the view of the sea. The Lady’s Tower in Elie was also a particular favourite of mine and the views from any of the stop off points along the route were magnificent. I’ve said before, folk don’t always know what’s on their doorstep, and as much as I enjoy visiting other countries, my homeland of Scotland continues to amaze and excite me. I’ve covered a fair bit of the country, but still have more to see and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey this year.
