500 Subscribers
When I logged onto WordPress this morning, a popup appeared alerting me to the fact five hundred people have now subscribed to this blog. I didn’t imagine making that milestone and I’m so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to have these random posts delivered to their in-box. Thank you.
This blog is simply a document of what I’m up to, more or less in real time. What I mean by that is, I’m generally not writing about things that have happened years ago, though occasionally the odd memory of something I feel relevant will appear. The places I visit and the experiences I write about are happening now, in the last couple of weeks or so. This blog is as up to date as I can make it. I have had to make some effort this year to get on top of it and catch up with posts due to what I wanted to write about. I’m in a routine now and intend to keep on blogging. I may even change the look and feel a bit, as I have a whole range of themes I can select. Watch this space!
I sometimes see posts on social media about whether blogging is relevant today, and if a writer should have a blog. I don’t spend time thinking about this. I enjoy doing it and that’s the only reason I need. I decided to do this blog to keep a record and show that writing is not all about sitting at a desk day in and day out. I’ve said it before, but writing is not just about putting words on the page. It’s about everything else going on all around you. Tapping into that makes it easier for me to make stuff up. Experiences inform my writing and this blog outlines those experiences. Hopefully it’s done in an entertaining way. Hopefully this all makes sense.
Checking my word document, where I cut and paste these posts as an additional backup, it’s hovering around seventy-five thousand words. That’s the length of a novel. In fact, the sections on Facts Behind the Fiction, providing background to The Kill Chain, amount to a further six thousand words. Just goes to show that writing a little every week or so, soon mounts up. Thanks again for reading, it’s really appreciated.
