CODI Again
I’m running behind with updating this blog. Deciding to draft a second novel in the year has proved challenging but an enjoyable one, so I’m not complaining. It has taken up a fair amount of time and with work being so manic, some things have slipped. I’ve some catching up to do before the end of the year.
I was fortunate to be invited back to perform with the Cabaret of Dangerous Idea at the end of November. I did the show from the fringe festival in August called Cybercrime is not just for criminals. Big crowd, great questions and I thoroughly I enjoyed myself despite the nerves.
This time I had booked a hotel so I didn’t have to travel back late evening. This meant I could have a drink after the show. I had hoped I would be in my usual spot of going on first, allowing me to watch the other two performances from the audience with a pint in my hand. Unfortunately I was asked to go on second, which I did. The nerves by that point were quite something, but it was all good. I got my pint and stood at the back and watched the last performer and then made my way to the hotel bar for another pint before calling it a night. I had a cyber conference the next day in Edinburgh so it made sense to stay over otherwise give the commute back home and then coming in again early the next morning.
I do enjoy hanging out in the green room back stage, which I’m sure I’ve mentioned previously is not green. I found out that the old red leather armchairs had been thrown out from a casino down the street and the folk at The Stand had grabbed them. There was also two cardboard boxes of wine in a can, left over from the Fringe and performers could help themselves. I did, but refrained from opening a can before I went on stage. I have a strict no alcohol rule when performing. I don’t think it would help settle my nerves.
In part 48 of this series I mentioned the two red doors you stand behind before being called on stage. The image for this post is the one leading to the audience. It gives me shivers just looking at it!
Good news is I’ve applied and have just been accepted for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe August 2024. This will be my fifth time at the festival as a performer. I’m toying with the idea of doing a brand new show. I have until the end of January 2024 to decide and have a plan for it drafted. Across the four fringes I’ve done two shows, My neighbour hacked my toothbrush, and, Cybercrime is not just for criminals. I’d like to doing something different again. It puts me under pressure as I could just rock up and do what I’ve done previously, but I like a challenge. I’ve some ideas, just need to think a bit more before committing. Right now it may revolve around the online review space, the use of criminal services to attack brands and the difference between misinformation and disinformation and then tying up with my thoughts on the Digital Dark Age which I talk a lot on anyway. Something to mull over during the festive season.
